How it works

  1. 1

    Choose the file

A .docx, .xlsx or .pptx from anywhere on the phone.

  2. 2

It is read on the phone

    Words, headings, lists and tables.

  3. 3

    You get a PDF

Sign it, print it, shrink it or send it on.

The problem

Somebody sends you a form as a Word file, or a list of candidates as a spreadsheet. The phone has nothing that opens it, so the options are to install an office suite, to send the file to a website that converts it, or to find a computer. All three are a lot of trouble for a document you need to read once and then send on.

What SahiScan does

Open it in SahiScan and it comes back as a PDF: the words, the headings, the lists and the tables, on A4 pages. From there it is an ordinary document - sign it, stamp it, make it smaller, print it, or send it to whoever asked for it.

The details that matter

Questions people ask

How do I open a Word document on my Android phone?

Open SahiScan, tap All PDF tools, then Office to PDF, and pick the file. It comes back as a PDF you can read and send, with no office suite to install and nothing uploaded anywhere.

How can I convert a docx to PDF without internet?

The whole thing happens on the phone. A Word file is a zip of XML and the app reads it directly, so it works in flight mode and your document never leaves the handset.

Does it keep the tables in my document?

Yes. Headings stay headings, bold stays bold, lists keep their nesting and tables keep their grid. A workbook comes across one sheet at a time, each sheet named.

Will the PDF look exactly like the original Word file?

No, and the app says so on the finished document. The words and the structure are kept, but the page is rebuilt onto clean A4 - images, charts and the original pagination are left out.

Why will my old .doc file not open?

A .doc, .xls or .ppt from before 2007 is a completely different format inside. Rather than guess at it and hand back nonsense, the app asks you to re-save it as .docx and try again.

Can it open an Excel sheet or a PowerPoint deck too?

Yes - .xlsx and .pptx both. Each worksheet comes through as a table under its own name, and a deck keeps the order its slides are actually in rather than the order the files were written.
