How it works
- 1
Choose the PDF
A notice, a letter, a long notification.
- 2
Set the voice
Language, voice, speed and pitch.
- 3
Listen
It reads through, page by page.
The problem
A fourteen-page notification arrives the day before a deadline, in small print, and you are on a bus. Or the print is simply too small to read comfortably, and pinching through a page at a time is not reading, it is work.
What SahiScan does
Open it and the phone reads it to you, page by page, at the speed you set. Hindi documents are read in Hindi, because the words are read from the document rather than guessed at.
The details that matter
- The words come from the PDF itself rather than from looking at the pages, so there is nothing to recognise and nothing to get wrong. A scanned document has no words in it at all, and the app says so and points at the tool that does read pictures.
- Only voices that work without internet are offered. Android also lists voices that are produced on Google's servers, and using one would send the words of your document off the phone - so they are left out, and the app says why.
- Speed from half to double, and the pitch with it. Both are set before you start and both hold for the whole document.
- It reads through the document rather than stopping at the first page, and shows which page it is on so you can follow along.
Questions people ask
How do I make my phone read a PDF out loud?
Open SahiScan, tap All PDF tools, then Read aloud, and choose the file. The phone reads it page by page using its own voice, with the speed and pitch you set.
Can I listen to a PDF without internet?
Yes. Only voices that work offline are offered, so the reading and the document both stay on the phone. More voices can be added in your phone's own speech settings.
Does it read Hindi PDFs in Hindi?
Yes, as long as your phone has a Hindi voice installed. The words are taken from the document itself rather than recognised from the picture, so the script does not have to be guessed at.
Why will it not read my scanned document?
A scan is a photograph of words rather than words, so there is nothing to read out. The app says so and points you at PDF to text, which reads the words off the page first.
Can I change how fast it reads?
Yes - from half speed to double, with the pitch alongside it. Both are set before you start and hold for the whole document.
