PDF to text
Get the words out of a PDF with the headings still in place.
The problem
You need to quote three clauses from a twelve-page notification. Copying from a PDF on a phone either does not work or gives you one long wall of words where the clause numbers, the headings and the paragraph breaks have all been flattened into the same thing.
What SahiScan does
Open the PDF and the words come back with the shape kept: titles as titles, numbered clauses still numbered, paragraphs still separate. Copy the lot and paste it wherever you need it.
The details that matter
- The shape is worked out from where the words sat on the page, not guessed. A line set larger than the ones around it was a heading, two lines close together were one paragraph that wrapped, and two lines far apart were not.
- Clause four still says four. Numbered points keep their own numbers rather than being renumbered from one, which matters when you are quoting a rule sheet back at somebody.
- English documents for now. Reading Devanagari needs a second text model on the phone, and the app says so rather than handing back an empty result on a Hindi page.
- It reads the pages as pictures, so it works on a scanned PDF as well as one made by a computer - which is the case where copying from a PDF reader gives you nothing at all.
